I had heard a couple of weeks ago that casinos with union workers were going to stay shut down until june 17. At that point would be 90 days of no work and the casinos would fire everyone and offer their jobs back at lower wages with no union..

But as of today, 4 station casinos including the palms have told their workers to turn in their uniforms as they are told these properties will not reopen.

Everyone for themselves at this point. Even non-humans.

Dominos are falling..initially.

Opening Capitalism in “phases” doesn’t work and these asshole Democrat governors and the powers that be above their pay grade know this.

“Don’t Tread On Me” must rise some more.

Just to bring us back to reality...the announcement was that GVR, RR, Boulder and Santa Fe would open first...the others to follow. With that, they also announced layoffs. None of the casinos will stay closed...at least in today's announcement. Separately, Doug has a good point as even without the virus, backlash was growing re: fees, payouts and how the players were being treated. That is especially true for CA visitors.

No one said they were closing doors. Much of the workforce is essentially being let go. They will operate as a skeleton crew until this phase bullshit is squashed.

And it’s NOT a dig on Stations. Stations is getting ahead of the curve and protecting themselves and at the same time I like the play here. They basically told Governor Sisolack of shit to pound sand. It’s best to put the burden on him NOW to stop the phases and delay bullying and Open shit up now with ALL businesses. Stations relies on locals business and they are making a stand. They are going down too with the locals of Las Vegas.

Governor Sissylack is done.

You are either just making this up or misinterpreting things about as much as possible. Stations is paying all full time employees through May 16 (a full two months after closing), then they will being layoffs. Those not laid off will still be paid through May 31 even if they aren't working. All health care benefits will still be covered through September 30. Part-time workers probably aren't getting the same deal. Most Stations casinos will open as soon as the governor says they can. Palms, Fiesta's, and Texas will stay closed and will reopen after they have assessed the situation. So 14 casinos are going to open as soon as possible, four are going to wait, and they are still paying everyone, yet you think that somehow means they "will not reopen?" It all seemed pretty clear to me in the letter they sent out today: https://news3lv.com/news/local/station-casinos-begins-laying-off-workers-after-shutdown-extends

There have always been more 3-2 blackjack tables in Las Vegas, including $5 minimums, than anywhere else in the world. The parking fees were only at about 30 of the 100 or so casinos in the valley, and half of those were extremely easy to get validated. Resort fees were silly, but no difference in paying $80 for a room compared to $30 for a room + $50 resort fee.

The restrictions/rules in Vegas casinos will be stringent, as will they be in any other casino in America.

I like going to the casino to bet on sports, but it will be tough with all the rules.......so online betting is the way to go, now & in the future.

Stations and the other locals casinos will have a much shorter ramp up as they have a built in, nearby, customer base. They should serve as a model for the strip in terms of what procedures can be implemented and be effective. I've never paid for parking, but then again we haven't been to an MGM property since they implemented the fees. The room for $30 and $50 for the resort fee is a valid argument, but the buyer perception is focused on value and, for that $50 many considered they are being ripped off. That is a great argument for a strip casino marketing plan of no resort fee and just raise their rates. Coming out of the virus, value will be even more important.
An aside, interesting that the Palms is not in the first wave of Stations openings. I think they bet big on that property in the renovation ($690m for the reno after paying $313m for the property) and already realize it is a big loser. They were trying to get the locals back before shutting down, but they are dealing with a $48m hit just related to the closing of the centerpiece night/day club after only seven months.

Strip resorts should have fees be a la carte. Give the people the choice if they want to use the pool or not. Maybe they will be using Uber and don’t plan on using the parking garage. Give people the choice. The fees have been ridiculous.

Agreed. It would be nice, but I can't imagine any place really doing this.

Original comment was rumor about casinos with union employees..will see if that comes true on june 17.

Station casinos are not union..what do you think it means when the workers have all been told to turn in their uniforms?
Of course it will reopen under the existing name or a different name or sold..but all the employees at the 4 casinos are gone for good according to the employees that got the notice.

Unless the convention business returns, there will be several casinos in Vegas closing their doors permanently.

there are more subtle rule changes than 3-2 vs, 6-5, making your already razor thin edge, zero !

decent place to retire to,,,,cheap, once had great food bargains, but that was 25+ + years ago !

no reason to go there anymore, unless it's going to be your cheapie retirement alternative to Florida
